The goal of mammography is the early detection of breast cancer, typically through detection of characteristic masses and/or microcalcifications.
The American Cancer Society guidelines recommend that all women aged 40 and over have annual mammograms. The first mammogram done is called a baseline mammogram. A specially trained radiologic technologist performs the mammogram.
Process: This is the process of using low-dose x-rays to examine the human breast and is used as a diagnostic as well as a screening tool. It can also be used if you have a lump or other sign of breast cancer.
